The Top Five Most Important Qualities Of School Fencing

Fencing is probably the most important aspect of security for schools.  It keeps potential intruders out and is also the first aesthetic feature that visitors to your school will notice.

That’s why it’s good to know the most important qualities to look for when deciding on new school fencing.  In this post, we take a look at what those qualities are, and how CLD Fencing can help you with your requirements.

1. How secure should school fencing be?

School fencing obviously needs to be extremely secure, both to keep children safe on site and to prevent unwanted visitors from entering the grounds.  However, it’s also important that the perimeter fence doesn’t look threatening, as schools should be welcoming places.

Fortunately, here at CLD Fencing, our school fencing has both points covered.  All our products that are suitable for schools are extremely secure whilst also being aesthetically pleasing.

The first of these is our Ultimate™ school security mesh fencing system.  This features exceptionally strong profiled panels with close wire centres. These panels are securely fixed to the fence posts using a full-length clamp bar.

Ultimate™ fencing is extraordinarily difficult for intruders to climb. However, whilst being extremely practical, it also gives a smart and welcoming look to the border of your school.

Another option for those looking for high-security school fencing is our Dulok™ double wire mesh system.  This school fencing is available in a range of heights and is notoriously tricky to cut through or climb over.

2. How high should a school fence be?

Government guidance states that school perimeter fencing should be a minimum of 2 metres in height.  It also notes that gates should be fitted with anti-lift hinges and locking mechanisms that do not assist climbing.  The gates should be the same height as the fencing.

Although school fencing should be high enough to deter unauthorised entry and exit from the grounds, it should also allow a clear view over the surrounding land.

Ultimately, the needs of your site and the functions that you require will determine the height of your school fencing.  Talk to us about your requirements and we’ll be happy to offer our professional advice.

3. What material should school fencing be made from?

Ideally, school fencing should be made from galvanised steel, with panels fixed to posts with sturdy clamps.  There should be no visible fixings on the back of posts, as these could be tampered with.

Our Dulok™ double wire mesh system has all these features, with its steel panels including twin 8mm wires welded on either side of 6mm vertical wires.  This makes it virtually impossible for would-be intruders to break through.

4. Choosing a colour for your school fencing

When deciding on new perimeter fencing for your school, it is worth considering not only the security aspect but also the impression it makes on parents, students, and visitors.

You could opt for traditional green or black, or choose from our wide variety of RAL colours to match your school’s branding.

5. What type of fencing is best for different areas of the school?

There’s not just the perimeter of your school to think about when considering new school fencing.

At CLD Fencing, we also have great fencing options for other purposes, such as screening, protecting storage areas, and demarcation of green spaces.

Our Screenogril™ louvered fence panel system features versatile screening, which is ideal for keeping unsightly bins hidden from view.  It also provides your bin storage area with an excellent defence against vandals and arsonists and keeps children away from hazardous waste.

For demarcation of green spaces, take a look at our Flexa-Rail vertical bar metal railings, which are self-raking.  This means that they follow the contours of the ground – so there’s no need to create steps in the fencing, even on steep gradients.
