Project Overview

Back in 2016; in order to alleviate intercity, commuter and freight traffic, Atkins, Laing O’Rouke, Network Rail and VolkerRail joined forces to complete the £250million Staffordshire Area Improvement Programme (SAIP).

As one of the last remaining bottlenecks on the West Coast Line, this programme was set to improve the flyover at Norton Bridge, implementing smoother and more reliable journeys for passengers on one of Europe’s busiest railway line.

One of the main challenges facing Staffordshire Alliance was preventing trespassers from accessing the track, in order to minimise disruption to the multiple lines through the site. This meant that CLD Fencing Systems’ Railway Security Fencing was required; offering an added level of security to protect the tracks.

Almost 11km of CLD Fencing Systems Dulok Railway Fencing was designed, manufactured and supplied along with 16 Lockmaster Swing Gates; all successfully installed by a Northern Based Fencing Contractor. Our Dulok Double Wire Fencing Systems was selected and optimised thanks to its anti-climb and anti-cut properties offering protection against trespassers, matching their main requirement.

The Brief

With the introduction of the Staffordshire Area Improvements Programme, the client had a number of specific requirements that CLD Fencing Systems needed to comply with for their fencing and gate solutions:

  • High level of security
  • Deter potential trespassers from accessing the tracks
  • Easy access points for workers, that also held the same level of security as the fence line
  • Match the environmental characteristics of the project.

Systems Used

Dulok

Featuring 868 double wire mesh, giving intruders little chance of breaking through. The fencing panels are fixed to steel posts using sturdy clamps secured with pin hex security screws, with no visible fixings on the back of the posts.

LockMaster

An ideal system to ensure safe and secure authorised access in and out of the perimeter for the workers passing through. In order to create a seamless fence line, CLD Systems Lockmaster comes with a Dulok double wire infill, creating a flush finish.
