Sheffield Custody Suite
Project Overview
Opened in April 2016, as a new build, Sheffield Custody Suite is a custom 50-cell custody suite with associated charge, interview, and ancillary accommodation for other forces estate teams.
Designed and procured through the Scape Group’s Major Works framework, the £14 Million project was completed on time and on budget by Willmott Dixon.
Since the completion of the scheme, It has become widely recognised as a model for future custody suites in terms of compliance, sustainability, design, and procurement.
Two years on from its opening, CLD Systems revisited the project to see how its unique Privacy Security Fencing has stood the rigours of day-to-day life in South Yorkshire’s busiest custody suite. Work on the project was completed by CLD Approved Contractor Scheme (ACS) Member Davison Fencing.
The Brief
Screening the transit area of a modern custody suite required a dedicated brief for the privacy security fencing. In early 2016 we carried out a site visit , with Davison Fencing and Willmott Dixon, to assess the scope of the brief.

Systems Used
When designing the privacy security fencing system we had to look at how we could take a security rated fencing system and add the addition of screen from view inserts that wouldn’t affect the overall security rating of the product.
Whilst it has been exposed to all the elements South Yorkshire can throw at it, the panels remain in first class condition with zero damage to any of the weaves. We have experience no issues with any of the fencing on the site. – South Yorkshire Police Facilities Management Team.
