Folly Farm

Project Overview
Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo in Pembrokeshire, Wales was established in 1988 when the old dairy farm grounds were converted into an adventure park area and later into a Zoo.
In 2013, they established ‘Penguin Coast’ which plays host to one of the best penguin enclosures in the United Kingdom. Shortly afterwards, the Zoo wanted to expand their environmental protection work and looked at bringing African Lions to the park.
Working with CLD Fencing Systems their Zoo Manager Tim Morphew began work on what would become a Silver Award winner for Best Enclosure Design at the British and Irish Zoo and Aquaria (BIAZA0 Annual Zoo awards the following year. The enclosure features 2 paddocks with 4 dens and 5 yards to offer the very best comfort for the African Lions. CLDs work at Blackpool Zoo was one of the key factors in working with CLD Fencing Systems on the design of the enclosure fencing and gates. Since then the relationship between Folly Farm and CLD Fencing Systems has grown from strength to strength.

The Brief
Tim had a very strict brief for the project, all aspects needed to be fulfilled before any work could start on the 2 acre site.
- Twin Wire 868 Rigid Mesh Fencing System
- Longevity of 20 years
- Easy maintenance
- Heights of at least 5m
- 45degree crank returns
- Air Lock Swing Gate systems
Systems Used

We had to pre-empt a 20-year future, which is the lifespan of the Lions and the time the enclosure must last. The system at Blackpool Zoo had really stood out when I was researching, and found that it had been manufactured by CLD Fencing Systems at a competitive price, so I got in touch with them.
