Project Overview

The Edinburgh-Glasgow Improvement Programme (EGIP) is an improvement programme focusing on the Edinburgh to Glasgow rail corridor.

Its aim is to make Edinburgh airport and nearby business developments more accessible by public transport by improving the train services and integrating them with the Edinburgh tram system. Part of the programme included the construction of a new tram depot at Gogar.

The large site, which construction started on in 2011; required a number of security systems to be manufactured and supplied to protect the rolling stock and prevent vandalism. The fencing had to offer two levels of security, one in the terms of General Perimeter and the other in terms of High Level Security for areas inside the Depot where high value assets were located.

CLD Fencing Systems worked with a member of their Approved Contractor Scheme (ACS) network to create a package of fencing and gate system that would allow them to meet the tight budgets and project timeline. Speed and simplicity was required on all aspects from delivery to installation and effective planning proved to be the key to completing this flag-ship project.

The Brief

Due to the nature of the project a number of issues and requirements had to be achieved in the brief.

  • Cost Effective General Perimeter Fencing
  • Automated Gate access
  • Anti-climb 358 fencing system at high value internal areas
  • Delivered on time and in full

CLD Systems were able to offer us solutions that matched the budget for the project and at the same time ticked all the requirements of the client. With a long construction time, budgets were tight and without their help it would have been tough to fully protect the project.
