Adapting to COVID-19 – Supporting the NHS
Supporting the NHS is just one of the many facets of the COVID-19 Rapid Response Physical Security Team (RRPST) from CLD Fencing Systems. When a supplier of hospital and ward temporary screening systems was unable to source vital parts, they contacted the RRPST to help with a major project for one of the new NHS temporary hospitals.
A lack of bespoke foundation feet for the screening systems meant that with a short lead time of only 72hrs, the RRPST needed to jump with both feet into supporting this critical project. Alan Gillan, Manufacturing Manager, at CLD Fencing Systems said “When we first heard of the requirement, we needed to look at what resources we had in our manufacturing team and how we could adapt them to something that isn’t even part of our standard manufacturing processes.”
CLD Fencing Systems, produced their own in-house welding rigs and changed over the flow of the manufacturing line so that they could maintain safe working distance at all times, even when the cut pieces were being transported to the welding bays.
The team went the extra mile to produce 1,000 units out of the door by Friday 3rd April and have another 2,000 in production with further foundation feet requiring manufacturing to support the new projects on order.
Russell Wells, Global Sales Director said; “When we launched the RRPST we wanted to help the NHS in anyway we could. We originally envisaged this as just supplying our range of temporary and adaptive fencing. However, what has become apparent over the last week is that as a manufacturer we can offer so much more to the COVID-19 support cause.”
