School Fencing – St Mary Magdalene C of E School

CLD Fencing Systems School Fencing helps to make a new Gateway to Greenwich

A new £45 million all-through school on the Greenwich Peninsula has benefited from CLD Fencing Systems dedicated School Fencing. Catering for up to 1,646 children from Nursery to Sixth Form ages, work was completed by BAM Construction on Phase One in November 2018.

The site spans approximately two hectares of land at the base of Greenwich Peninsula on the corner of Millennium Way and John Harrison Way. Work was approved on the project by Greenwich Council in February 2016. CLD Fencing Systems had worked extensively on the specification of a number of mesh fencing systems on the project with Grant Associates.

Preventing unauthorised access to the school was a key factor in the fence solution that was put forward to Grant Associates and BAM Construction. The perimeter consisted of Dulok-Lite using 656 Twin Wire Mesh Panels to make a cost effective but high quality school fencing design.

In terms of the playground fencing, a ‘screen from view’ perimeter fencing solution was achieved through the use of Exempla. Chestnut Products Limited, the main fencing contractor on the project, adapted the Profiled Mesh to include Wooden Screens.

Mark Tyrrell, Managing Director of Chestnut Products said:

“We wanted to create a modern look to the play area fencing. It was important to the school and the design that natural screen from view was used. By using the Exempla mesh panels we were able to install wooden slats. The SafeTFix system gives the added advantage of no external fixings.”

Internally the grounds of St Mary Magdalene School benefitted from the Rotop mesh fencing system. Rotop provides a safe and secure fencing system with both a rolled top and bottom. The mesh panels feature an aperture of 150 x 50mm and like the rest of the fencing galvanised to BS EN ISO 1461 and Powder Coated RAL 5008 Blue Grey to BS EN 13438.

Phase one also consisted of the construction of two sports pitches. These all weather 1G and 3G Pitches needed the best in sports fencing. Dulok Sports was installed on both pitches with wooden kickboards to the base of each mesh panel. Access control was provided via our Lockmaster Swing Gates with matching infill. Additional Lockmaster Swing Gates have been used to provide security gates on the rest of the project.

Andy Lock, BAM Construction Manager for the London Region, said:

“This is a complex scheme that has required a lot of careful coordination and planning. The St Mary Magdalene School will generate lasting benefits for local education in the borough of Greenwich for years to come.”
